Villa NuMoViv is situated just outside the medieval village Gualdo, in the province Macerata. At an altitude of 550 m above sea level. Le Marche is composed of 5 provinces. From north to south the provinces are Pesaro/Urbino, Ancona, Macerata, Fermo and Ascoli Piceno. From Villa NuMoViv it is easy to explore 3 other provinces: Ancona, Ascoli Piceno en Fermo (and their capitals carrying the same names). Beaches, mountains and lakes can all be reached within 15 to 60 minutes from the Villa. Villa NuMoViv is therefore an ideal base for exploring a big part of Le Marche.
In the western part of the province Macerata lies a mountain range of the Appenines. The highest peaks are in the very south-west, which are the Sibillini mountains (National Park). The landscape in between the high peaks and the Adriatic coast is very hilly.
The city Macerata, capital of the province with the same name, is situated at 15 kilometers inland. On a hill top in between the 2 important valleys of the province, Valle del Chienti and Valle del Potenza. From Villa NuMoViv it is a 40 minute drive to the city Macerata. Here you can find one of the oldest (1290) universities of Italy. The Piazza della Libertà forms the heart of the city. On this square you will find the university, the theatre and 15th century Torre Civia. Macerata is a beautiful, pleasant city, which offers good shopping and eating. The weekly market is on Wednesday. The city counts many monuments, amongst which the famous and beautiful open-air theatre Sferisterio (1819). This theatre hosts an annual opera festival in July and August, which attracts many visitors every year. Tickets for this festival can be purchased online through the Sferisterio website. For opera lovers a great and very special combination with a nice stay at Villa NuMoViv!
Along the coast of the province Macerata you will find mostly sandy beaches. The main seaside resorts are Porto Recanati, Porto Potenza Picena and Civitanova Marche. The seaside resorts of the neighbouring provinces are also easy to reach, such as the Riviera del Conero in Ancona, Sant’Elpidio Mare in Fermo and Grottammare in Ascoli Piceno.
The village and health resort Sarnano is an important place in the Sibillini mountain area. It is a beautiful, well maintained medieval village.
